Phonemic Awareness

Below are two phonological awareness assessments (PAST & Heggerty Phonemic Awareness Skills) to help determine strengths, gaps, and next instructional steps. There is also a Skills Progression chart in phonemic awareness (Shifting The Balance by Burkins and Yates, p. 47) to help track student progress.

Phonics

Below is the CORE Phonics survey. This is used to assess a student's ability to identify letter sounds and decode words. It is helpful to identify gaps in phonics knowledge, such as short vowel sounds or multisyllabic decoding.

Fluency

Below is a tool to assess a student's speed, expression, phrasing, and attention to punctuation.

Vocabulary

The CORE Vocabulary Screener is used to help determine a student's word knowledge and language comprehension.

Comprehension

This is the CORE Reading Maze Comprehension test. This tool measures how well a student understands what they are reading in context.

Writing

This is the Primary Spelling Inventory assessment. This allows educators to see how students apply phonics skills. We are able to analyze spelling patterns to help identify a student's developmental stage in writing and guide the next steps for instruction.
