Text Analysis
For this assignment, we were asked to select a text from any discipline and analyze the complexity of the text by looking at the Qualitative Dimensions (text structure, vocabulary, knowledge demands, purpose) and the Quantitative Dimensions (Lexile or grade-level measure).
The purpose was to practice evaluating what makes a text complex, what challenges students might face, and how to plan lessons or activities that support all students as they work with the text.
Close Reading: Before–While–After Strategy Assignment
In this assignment, I planned a close reading routine using the Before–While–After (BWA) strategy with a 7th-grade science text about coral reefs. I included the lesson context, the BWA steps, scaffolds for students, and an example of student annotations.
SWOT Analysis of Curriculum
For this assignment, I completed a SWOT Analysis of a literacy curriculum I currently use. I examined the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats within the program, focusing on how it positions student voices, represents perspectives, and presents bias in texts.
The purpose was to identify ways to improve the curriculum and develop action steps for more equitable and effective literacy instruction.
